When Your Words Don’t Mean Shit…
I’m very disappointed as I write this.
I saw a “made in Nigeria” wine that was being spoken highly of, by some social media influencers and I decided to try it. I contacted them and told them about the blog, that I wanted to do a review, I mean as a wine lover, isn’t it strange that wine is being made in my country and I don’t know about it?
I was so excited when they delivered it to me, I searched through Pinterest to get inspired for the photos I’d take. I was ready to recommend wine for y’all and sing “proudly made in naija” but the wine was so bad that I wondered if anyone tasted it before it was bottled.
Sadly, I had to send the feedback directly to them because there is no amount of words I could have used to write that review in a soft tone. It was that bad. Then I remembered all the glowing reviews from social media influencers and started to question if my taste buds were shit? But I gave it to three other people and we all had the same reaction to it so it’s obviously not me.
I know this might sound naive but these false words that people put out on behalf of brands, is it really helping anyone, is it necessary to lie because you were paid to, how do people trust you when they know that your word depends on who paid for it? Do they care at all that the reputation they have built is just based on lies? I had to unfollow the influencer who spoke so highly of the wine and they have lost my respect.
I like to think that my honesty is the reason people ask me for recommendations about books, restaurants, wines, etc. I haven’t led anyone astray(yet) and I really try to encourage people to try things for themselves too(except this wine, I’m not even going to put the name because I value you too much)
So, my question is: what do you have when your words have no value?
P.s I want to do an affordable wines post but I’m too broke for that, so I’ll find another way to make it up to you guys.
I hope you found the post interesting. Let’s connect more on social media.
